Sprint Promises To Create Or Return 5000 American Jobs

President-elect Donald Trump says wireless carrier Sprint Corp will bring 5,000 jobs back to the United States and OneWeb a new company will be hiring 3,000 people. Rough Cut

Trump gave no details and did not say if he or his transition team had anything to do with the new jobs.

"We are excited to work with President-Elect Trump and his Administration to do our part to drive economic growth and create jobs in the USA", said Claure in a press release. And SoftBank led the $1 billion fundraising round OneWeb needed to create those new jobs.

Trump also announced that OneWeb would be hiring 3,000 people in the United States. President-elect Trump brought to Masa and the way they worked together really energized the focus of the fund to invest this amount of money in the U.S.", OneWeb's Greg Wyler told "Squawk Box.

A wealthy NY businessman, Trump pledged during his White House campaign to do more to protect workers' interests. "Sprint will begin discussions immediately with its business partners, states and cities to determine the right locations in the U.S. to create these jobs".

"Masa said he would never do this had we (Trump) not won the election!"

SoftBank owns about 80 percent of Sprint.

Sprint Promises To Create Or Return 5000 American Jobs

"We just had some very good news", he said.

Son, the SoftBank CEO, met with Trump earlier this month, according to the New York Times. Sprint's job additions will be part of that total but will be funded by Sprint rather than Softbank, representatives for the carrier told Bloomberg.

Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that USA satellite company OneWeb and telecommunications group Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) will bring 8,000 jobs into the US.

Part of Claure's turnaround efforts at Sprint included closing or cutting back call centers in New Mexico, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Colorado, an effort that claimed about 2,000 jobs.

The OneWeb deal in October included the creation of some 50,000 jobs, and Sprint's announcement that 5,000 jobs would be created or brought back to the USA was accounted for in the initial 50,000 assessment. He campaigned on saving U.S.jobs and jump starting the economy. The president-elect has conflicts of interest within his own business; Trump has sourced jobs from overseas and he has properties in other countries with whom he will now be working on foreign policy.

The company will also follow through on plans to shut down another factory close by in Huntington, Indiana, with the loss of 700 jobs. Earlier today, Trump tweeted, "Doing my best to disregard the many inflammatory President O statements and roadblocks". SoftBank acquired Sprint back in 2013 but has failed to make any kind of headway into the telecom market. Sprint acknowledged that its pledged 5,000 jobs are part of the 50,000 U.S.jobs that its chairman, Tokyo-based billionaire Masayoshi Son, promised Trump in early December.
