LinkedIn's desktop redesign rolling out now

LinkedIn Gets Site Redesign

Following its merger with Microsoft, LinkedIn has undergone what it calls "the largest desktop redesign since LinkedIn's inception".

The redesign is all about bringing changes from the company's mobile app to its desktop experience, according to Chris Pruitt, LinkedIn's director of engineering.

They have also simplified the navigation on desktop into seven core areas - Home (Your Feed), Messaging, Jobs, Notifications, Me, My Network, and Search. The "more" icon provides links to other areas, such as LinkedIn Learning, Groups, Slideshare and more.

In a blog post, the company said the main page is now created to function more like a mobile app, with everything shooting off from a single page that doesn't need to be reloaded constantly.

Salmon in US May Be Infected With Japanese Tapeworm, Study Says
He is a professor of the preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine who was also teamed up during the study . For those unlucky few, they may suffer abdominal discomfort, nausea or loose stools, and some weight loss.

One such feature is a new messaging bot that will help users automatically schedule meetings and find places to meet. The site will now only show users invitations they haven't seen since their last visit, instead of showing the total number of pending invitations.

Aside from the new look, Pruett and Parnell also vowed that LinkedIn generally, by virtue of the data that its software sees and analyzes, is getting smarter about what each user cares about.

The update also gives the site's search feature a boost. Starting today, LinkedIn's interface on desktop browsers will sport a brand-new user interface overhaul. For example, the chat overlay could suggest that users message their connections at a particular company when looking at that company's job listings. If you're searching for a job and you know someone who works at the company, LinkedIn will prompt you to start a conversation with them to get a referral or some tips on applying. Suggestions to "Say Happy Birthday", "Say Congrats" and "View Jobs" are now also more prominent.

Messaging on LinkedIn used to be a lot more like sending formal email messages, but the company has been moving away from that model and towards a more Facebook-esque instant messenger setup that focuses on letting users quickly connect with short missives. LinkedIn is rolling out a messaging service that is similar to Facebook's real-time desktop message service. And to make the site more valuable for members collectively, and to encourage users to share more about themselves, LinkedIn is adding automated feedback generated by artificial intelligence on how they can build out their profile to stand out.
