Nintendo seems to be going 'gacha' with F2P Fire Emblem mobile game

During the Direct, Nintendo also confirmed that a new, yet to be titled game is in development for the Nintendo Switch, making this new game the first home console entry in the series since Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

The fact that "Fire Emblem Heroes" is free-to-play might be encouraging to Wall Street investors, who were disappointed in the apparent difficulty that "Super Mario Run" has had in generating recurring revenue - players buy all the levels once for $9.99, with no other opportunities for ongoing revenue. Fire Emblem is now bigger than it's ever been, so big it's leaping off of Nintendo's hardware and onto your smartphone. Luckily the January 18 Fire Emblem Direct brought us more than we could have asked for in one presentation.

Lastly, a Fire Emblem Warriors trailer has also been shown during the Nintendo Direct.

Fire Emblem Echoes isn't the only entry in the series now in development. But beware, some of those beloved characters will be acting against you, which means you'll have to kill them eventually.

Fire Emblem Warriors, however, isn't the only title that's coming to the Switch.

Nintendo seems to be going 'gacha' with F2P Fire Emblem mobile game

Fire Emblem Heroes was just announced at the Nintendo Direct, and is a Fire Emblem mobile title that will feature characters from all the past Fire Emblem games duking it out on mobile-sized battlefields.

Fire Emblem Heroes will arrive on Android and iOS on February 2.

The title was first announced in April, alongside a new entry in the Animal Crossing series, but both were ultimately pushed back in favor of releasing Super Mario Run by year's end.

Nintendo revealed on January 12 that a spinoff of the Fire Emblem series called Fire Emblem Warriors would be released for the upcoming Switch console. In the meantime, the aesthetics of the game running on a mobile device certainly make it appear as if it is a simpler version of the fan-favorite, turn-based RPG.

That wasn't today's only Fire Emblem announcement. Nintendo is still keeping things under wraps but promises that a brand new Fire Emblem game will be coming in 2018.
