After talks, Mexico says at 'impasse' with Trump over wall payment

Donald Trump expected to announce immigration restrictions on Wednesday

His approval ratings are at the lowest level of any Mexican president in years, and Trump's order on Wednesday to begin construction of the wall the very day two Mexican ministers began talks with his administration sparked anger in Mexico. The discussion capped a week that saw relations between the neighboring nations plunge into the biggest diplomatic crisis in decades as Pena Nieto vowed that Mexico will never pay for the border barrier.

The comments came after current president Enrique Pena Nieto scrapped a planned meeting on Tuesday with Mr Trump after the American president tweeted that it would be better to cancel if Mexico was unwilling to pay for his proposed wall.

Trump will also sign a measure targeting "sanctuary" cities where local officials refuse to help round up people for deportation, The Washington Post reported. "And in the end I think it will be good for both countries".

In a speech in Philadelphia later Thursday, Trump cast the cancellation as a mutual decision.

One of President Donald Trumps goals is to make the United States safer and stronger by reducing illegal immigration.

Mr Pena Nieto said this morning that the meeting - scheduled to happen next week - would not go ahead.

How to watch and stream the Steelers-Patriots AFC Championship game
Those histories will collide when two of the most successful programs of the century meet in Sunday's AFC championship game. Brady marched the Patriots down the field, fooling the Steelers' defense on a deep pass to Chris Hogan on 3rd down.

Though Trump had promised that he will make Mexico pay for the wall, he later claimed that U.S. will build it and Mexico will pay for it later - something that Mexico has been vehemently dismissing.

The White House left open the door for a possible rapprochement: White House spokesman Sean Spicer said the USA was keeping open lines of communication with Mexico and looking to reschedule the meeting, which had been planned for Tuesday. "The president's idea of a wall is not only extremely costly for US taxpayers, but greatly inefficient at border security".

The night before, he said the very notion of the wall Trump envisions "divides us", telling ABC News that the 50 Mexican consulates in the U.S.

"I respectfully suggest that the government of Mexico presents a lawsuit at the United Nations against the USA government for violation of human rights and racial discrimination", Mr. Lopez Obrador told a crowd of supporters north of Mexico City. Such refugees should be subject to extensive background checks and other vetting before being granted US visas - as they already are. We're going to put a substantial tax on those countries.

Most watched will be the call with Putin, whose interference in the 2016 USA presidential election has led to questions about Trump's relationship to the Russian leader and strained Trump's relationship with the intelligence community.

"This is the most surprising example of national unity that I've had the pleasure of seeing in my life", said Slim, who turned 77 yesterday.
