Microsoft Joins Suit Against Immigration Ban

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos says Trump's immigration order “is one we do not support”

Amazon and Expedia this week endorsed Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson's lawsuit opposing President Trump's immigration executive order. In addition, Expedia said that several of its employees based in the USA and overseas will be prevented from traveling.

Trump's administration has announced it will exacming the use of so-called H1-B work visas where tens of thousands of foreigners work in the U.S. tech industry with lower pay and far fewer benefits than their USA colleagues.

Washington State University also filed in support of the suit, detailing problems that the ban is causing its students and faculty. The firm's CEO Satya Nadella, originally from Hyderabad, India, said over the weekend: "As an immigrant and as a CEO, I've both experienced and seen the positive impact that immigration has on our company, for the country, and for the world".

Trump's directive on Friday put a 120-day hold on allowing refugees into the country, an indefinite ban on refugees from Syria and a 90-day bar on citizens from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. Now, one of those firms said it is exploring legal action to oppose the order.

"We're a nation of immigrants whose diverse backgrounds, ideas and points of view have helped us build and invent as a nation for over 240 years", Bezos said Monday in an internal email to Amazon employees. It's a distinctive competitive advantage for our country-one we should not weaken.

His former club were the front runners throughout, having a number of bids rejected, before a £25million fee was agreed on Sunday. Payet, 29, has scored eight goals in 32 games for France, featuring in the Euro 2016 final which they lost to Portugal.

The Washington Post, which is owned by Bezos, reported that Bezos wrote in an internal email to Amazon employees Monday that company lawyers have prepared a "declaration of support" for the suit.

Amazon and Expedia have submitted declarations in a federal court in Washington, claiming that a recent immigration order by U.S. President Donald Trump is disrupting their business and affecting employees. The company also noted that Asghar Farhadi, the Iranian director of the Amazon Studios film, "The Salesman", may not be able to attend the Academy Awards, where his movie is up for Best Foreign Film.

And Reuters reports that Microsoft is also working with the state, providing information about the order's impact "in order to be supportive", according to a spokesperson, who added "we'd be happy to testify further if needed".

"Apple would not exist without immigration, let alone thrive and innovate the way we do", said CEO Tim Cook in a memo to employees criticizing the presidential order. According to the filing, the executive order signed by the President on immigration is unconstitutional.
