Trump must level with public about ISIS fight

Abu Musab was finishing his night shift at an ISIS checkpoint in Raqqa early on November 9 when the friend who came to replace him told him the result of the U.S. election with a hysterical laugh.

His memorandum calls for a "comprehensive plan to defeat ISIS", stating that "there can be no accommodation or negotiation" with the group.

In the formal executive memorandum, Trump declared that "It is the policy of the United States that ISIS be defeated".

Trump had spoken about implementing a new plan to defeat the Islamic State, also called ISIS, at a campaign appearance in North Carolina in September.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump wants the Pentagon to come up with a new set of options for a tougher campaign against IS. He issued three executive orders.

Trump is also open to conducting joint operations with Russian Federation against the Islamic State in Syria, his spokesman said earlier this week.

In a move that is considered a reciprocal one, Iraq has placed a ban on U.S. citizens entering the country. And the plan seeks information operations, digital strategies and public diplomacy to isolate Daesh and its radical Islamist ideology.

Gas Prices Continue to Decline Throughout US
Dansville, which has had the lowest average price in the county for weeks, was down a penny from a week ago. That compares with the national average which has fallen 3.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.26.

Trump's vows to destroy ISIS - and his denunciations of the Obama administration for failing to get the job done - were a centerpiece of his campaign.

Trump, who pledged in his inaugural address to eradicate Islamic State and like-minded groups "from the face of the earth", met military chiefs at the Pentagon for about an hour on Friday.

Since Trump's inauguration, US forces have carried out more than 200 airstrikes in Iraq and Syria.

After his predecessor Barack Obama took a longer term view of the anti-ISIS fight, with a more cautious commitment of USA forces, "President Trump might be looking for something with quicker results, that could put some more options on the table", retired general David Barno told National Public Radio Friday.

"It represents a profound statement on the part of the United States that we are committed to ending this atrocity, which is necessary from a national security standpoint, but the intended results include saving an unknowably large number of people on a humanitarian level as well", the official said.

The president is putting it on paper to send a message, said the official.

Trump has signed a raft of other executive orders in the past few days, including a controversial ban on refugees entering the USA and a temporary ban on allowing individuals from seven mostly Middle Eastern nations, even some legal residents, to enter the US.
