Northeast hit by its biggest snowstorm of the winter

A fast-moving winter storm is expected to clog up morning commutes and blanket New York City in upward of 12 inches of snow on Thursday, forecasters said.

Roads are deserted after 12 inches of snow fell on the city, grounding more than 1,700 flights and bringing NY to a standstill.

More than 60 percent of Thursday's flights into and out of Boston's Logan International Airport have been canceled.

Despite the deteriorating conditions, the show must go on for many New Yorkers.

Cuomo said at 2 p.m. that the snow in New York City appeared to be tapering off, but he said this storm should not be taken lightly.

State offices are closed in New Jersey as snow moves across the state, slowing the morning commute. According to the agency, the snow is expected to fall heavily through the afternoon before tapering off to snow showers in the evening.

The warning, which was issued by the National Weather Service around 1:30 p.m. and replaces an earlier winter storm warning, is in effect until 8 tonight.
