Protesters demonstrate over federal Planned Parenthood funding

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and US President Donald Trump speak at Trump's Mar-a Lago resort in Palm Beach after North Korea reportedly fired a ballistic missile

Along Victory Drive near the Mankato Planned Parenthood office, roughly 10 abortion opponents chanted "Support life" late Saturday morning while more than 70 others held signs - many with Valentine's Day themes - expressing support for the organization.

Reporter Ashley Collins reported live from the scene of a protest against Planned Parenthood in Naples.

Planned Parenthood, a 100-year-old organisation, provides birth control and other women's health services in addition to abortion at 650 health centres, according to its website.

Shawn Carney, president of 40 Days for Life and a national organizer of #ProtestPP, said, "Planned Parenthood's brand is at an all-time low and their leadership reflects how disconnected they are from science and basic American values".

The rally began at 9 a.m. outside a Planned Parenthood facility on Goodlette-Frank Road.

Stay tuned for a more thorough rundown of today's Planned Parenthood events tomorrow. The hard-working, law-abiding citizens are paying for Planned Parenthood's barbaric actions.

"The fact that it's about a woman's choice, well half of the babies in the womb are women, tiny women", she said.

Dueling abortion protests both for and against Planned Parenthood are on tap for Dayton Saturday.

But Cole Black, who is 45 and from Fuquay-Varina, spoke in favor of the services provided by Planned Parenthood.

Thayer is on the board of Right to Life, an anti-abortion group that joined in on the movement to urge leaders to cut federal funding to Planned Parenthood. "My very first political protest in 1982 was in Washington against the Reagan administration's pro-life agenda, and I can't believe that all these years later I'm still protesting to ensure that women have the right to a safe, legal abortion without apology".

"They were the only people who cared", Caldwell says. "I think that is well documented, we don't have to wonder", said Carpentier. "It's about a woman's right to choose what she wants to do with her own body", says protester Linda Read.

Even when the rule has not been in effect, existing federal law has barred the use of US funds to pay for abortions anywhere in the world, The Washington Post reported. They do not need or deserve taxpayer dollars, and redirecting their federal funding to rural and community health centers would be a victory for women's health.
