Australian authorities arrest Hitler lookalike

Hitler and his birthplace in Austria

The man arrested is a 25-year-old Austrian national and was detained in his flat in the northern town of Braunau am Inn where the tyrannical German leader was born on April 20, 1889.

"It was obvious that he glorified Hitler", police spokesman David Furtner told Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Police say he has been spotted on multiple occasions wandering around Hitler's hometown of Braunau am Inn, and has even been photographed outside the house where the dictator was born.

He said the man had also been spotted in Vienna and Graz.

Police have confirmed the local media reports, saying that they are "aware of this situation" and have already issued an arrest warrant for the mysterious doppelganger on suspicion of 'revival of Nazism'.

The "Oberoesterreichische Nachrichten" newspaper reported that the man had also appeared in a local bar and identified himself as "Harald Hitler".

Samsung chief in second grilling over corruption claims
The prosecution has also identified four other Samsung executives as suspects and have summoned three of them. The secret confidante is on trial for charges including corruption and coercion.

It is a criminal offence in Austria to glorify Adolf Hitler or the Nazis.

The incident comes amid an ongoing legal dispute over Hitler's birthplace.

The Austrian government voted in December to buy the three-story dilapidated building, which it has rented from Gerlinde Pommer since 1972. "This is about the owner contesting the constitutional validity of the law", a spokesman for the Constitutional Court said at that time, as cited by Reuters.

The Austrian authorities, last October, had made a decision to demolish Hitler's birthplace house to stop it from becoming a focal point of neo-Nazis.

During Nazi rule, the house was transformed into a shrine to Hitler as the town drew in a wave of tourists.
