Reality of President Trump Is Stressing Out Americans... Big League

Donald Trump supporter Christopher Burritt right of Citrus Heights Ca. yells at protesters prior to a campaign rally for Donald Trump

And it doesn't matter if you're liberal or conservative - in total, 66 percent of Americans are anxious about the future of the country, with 76 percent of Democrats reporting they're stressed and an entire 59 percent of Republicans saying the same, Bloomberg reports.

Democrats were particularly stressed by the outcome of the election, with 72 percent saying Trump's win over Hillary Clinton was a significant source of stress.

The increased stress may be causing health problems, the APA says, citing those who reported a stress-related health symptom rose from 71 percent to 80 percent.

The matter is even worse as immigrants, Muslim Americans, and victims of sexual assault are even more susceptible to greater stress since the election.

More than half of Americans say the current political climate is a source of stress in their lives, according to a new survey. But right now we're more stressed out than we've been in the past decade, according to a survey released Wednesday.

In the report, which is part of the APA's annual Stress in America study, 1,019 American adults were surveyed-including registered Republicans and Democrats-between January 5-19. This represents the first significant increase in the 10 years since the Stress in America survey began. "If you look at the campaign and into the election, we certainly are at a time of a lot of change and a lot of uncertainty, and I would say that probably the level of predictability is less, and so it would be reasonable to surmise that stress would increase".

Members of Turkish, Syrian armed opposition arrive for talks in Astana
Jaafari has told Russian agency RIA Novosti that one-on-one meetings between the opposition and the government were "not planned". Kazakhstan on February 15 said talks had been moved one day to February 16 for unspecified "technical reasons".

Here are five findings from the latest report, available in full here.

Minority groups, millennials, those living in urban areas and those with a college education had higher levels of stress about the election.

A new survey revealed that Americans are indeed stressed when thinking about the future of their nation under Trump's presidency. But overall, two-thirds of people said they were stressed about the future of the country, including almost 60% of Republicans and 76% of Democrats. 76% of them said that they fear for their future.

If the political climate seems to be affecting your health, such as a 24-hour news cycle, Nordal suggests "limiting media consumption".

The Stress in America™ survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Poll on behalf of APA between August 5 and 31, 2016, among 3,511 adults ages 18+ who reside in the U.S. Surveys were conducted in English and Spanish. "Read enough to stay informed but then plan activities that give you a regular break from the issues and the stress they might cause".

"We know that chronic stress can take a toll on a person's health", APA Executive Director for Professional Practice Katherine C. Nordal wrote in the report. "And do not forget to take care of yourself and pay attention to other areas of your life", Nordal said.
