2 officers shot, 1 killed, after responding to traffic accident in California

A Whittier police officer was killed and another officer and a gunman were wounded in a gun battle Monday morning, officials said.

Los Angeles County Fire Dispatch Supervisor Art Marrujo said the suspect was treated for gunshot wounds.

A police officer responding to a auto crash was killed Monday outside Los Angeles, and a second officer was wounded, according to investigators.

The Whittier officers were responding to report of traffic collision before an officer-involved shooting occurred, the sheriff's department said.

Few details have been released about the incident, and it was not immediately clear what prompted the shooting.

The second officer was in stable condition. Investigators did not know why the suspect opened fire.
