Why Victor Cruz's Panthers visit makes sense

EAST RUTHERFORD NJ- DECEMBER 18 Victor Cruz #80 of the New York Giants celebrates a catch against the Detroit Lions during their game at Met Life Stadium

Cruz, who was released by the Giants last week, visited the Carolina Panthers over the weekend, according to Black and Blue Review. And on Sunday, Cruz held his first public visit with another team when he met with the Carolina Panthers.

The Giants cut Cruz on February 13 after seven seasons with the team.

Undrafted out of the University of MA in 2010, Cruz became a star in 2011 with 1,536 receiving yards and nine touchdowns during the team's most recent Super Bowl season. He would follow this up with another 1,000-yard season, and fall just short in 2013 with 998 receiving yards. In a preseason game against the New York Jets, Cruz went off for not one, not two, but three touchdowns, establishing a name for himself.

According to league sources, former Giants executive Dave Gettleman has brought in a familiar face from his former team.

After inking a five-year, $45 million deal, Cruz was not the same player.

Cruz appeared in 15 games this season, starting 12 of them.

Brown's plan calls for the high-speed rain to run from the Los Angeles area in the south to San Francisco Bay area in the north. As of noon Tuesday, the lake had dropped 15 feet to 887.94 feet elevation since it peaked Sunday above capacity at 902.1 feet.

His role had been diminished late last season as a third option behind Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard. Injury concerns also linger, as Cruz struggled to return to full health and his return took longer than expected.

In addition to the Panthers, there have also been conflicting reports about potential interest from the Denver Broncos, although nothing has materialized in that regard as of yet.

But Victor Cruz's impact on the team won't be soon forgotten.

The days are now over of MetLife stadium erupting in cheer whenever he made a catch: "Cruuuuuuuuz!"

The Panthers are in need of a slot receiver which is something Cruz wasn't given the opportunity to play a year ago, as Sterling Shepard emerged as that option for NY.
