AMD officially announces Ryzen 7 CPUs

For those of you just tuning in, Ryzen is AMD's last, best chance to prove it can compete effectively against Intel's Core i3/i5/i7 product lines. AMD's stock price has rocketed from $2 per share a year ago to close at $14 on Tuesday, in part over anticipation that Ryzen will be a big hit.

If you're in the market for a CPU upgrade, AMD's Ryzen processors could be just the thing.

Buyers seem to be trusting that the new CPUs will perform well, offer good value, or a combination of both. "Ryzen processors with SenseMI technology represent the bold and determined spirit of innovation that drives everything we do at AMD".

AMD is betting high on the performance to price ratio and therefore has competitively priced the Ryzen chips lesser than Intel's premium Core i7-6900K, at nearly half the price. The Ryzen 7 1800X scored the same in single-thread numbers, but edged the i7 in multi-threaded operations. Early third-party video and gaming benchmarks suggest the 1800X should at least be in the same league. AMD has unveiled three processors so far, the Ryzen 7 1800X, 1700X and 1700, all three of which have eight cores and a total of sixteen distinct threads.

In CPU Mark the Ryzen 7 1700x managed a score of 583, running at 3.5GHz. Intel should look out, as these chips, in some situations, can outperform its Core i7 processors!

Danica Patrick Reveals History of Concussions, Would Retire If Medically Advised
But the championship would definitely be the icing on the cake for my career". Earnhardt smiled as he spoke but did pause often to reflect and think.

After teasing their new Zen processor architecture in December past year, AMD was clearly gunning to de-throne Intel from the high-performance computing segment.

Today there are three Ryzen 7 CPUs available, the 1800X, 1700X, and 1700, all 8C16T devices, and all are significantly cheaper than their Intel counterparts. General availability will begin on or around March 2nd. This last bit may explain why Intel PR sent out a last-minute "call us before you write" email to most of the press, but not SemiAccurate, after hours last night.

The chip has a base clock speed of 3.0GHz and a boost speed of 3.7GHz.

AMD Ryzen chips use 4.8 billion transistors and have 52 percent more instructions per clock. Its main claim over the more affordable versions comes in form of processor clock speed. While independent benchmarking is not yet available (or allowed by AMD), AMD did come prepared with numerous benchmarks via live demonstrations.

Another two of those top six products are Ryzen-compatible AM4 motherboards. More details on tweaking you may expect next week, but the preliminary tweaking results that I have seen are impressive.
