Sixers trade Ersan Ilyasova to Hawks for Tiago Splitter, picks

Ersan Ilyasova played 53 games for the 76ers

The 6-foot-10 Ilyasova is expected to add scoring punch to Atlanta's front line as the Hawks attempt to improve their playoff position.

THE arms race continues in the East's top teams as the Atlanta Hawks landed Ersan Ilyasova in a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Tiago Splitter and draft considerations on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time).

The Hawks sit in the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference exiting the All-Star break. The former Spurs center averaged 5.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in a Hawks uniform.

Ilyasova has averaged 14.8 points while starting in 40 of 53 games this season.

'Hasty, irrational and unconstitutional': High Court's damning verdict on SA's ICC withdrawal
At a minimum, the ruling will delay South Africa's withdrawal from the ICC, which had been scheduled to take effect in October. The DA contended that parliament's approval was required before the notice could be delivered to the UN.

"I want to thank Ersan Ilyasova for his positive contributions to this organization both on and off the basketball court", 76ers president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo said in a statement. "We are excited to welcome Ersan", said Hawks coach and president of basketball operations Mike Budenholzer. It becomes the second time this season Ilyasova has been traded, as he was acquired by Philadelphia from the Oklahoma City Thunder on November 1.

Sadly, the inclusion of Splitter is largely inconsequential as the Brazilian center hasn't played since January of 2016 due to a host of niggling injuries.

It's definitely a weird trade but if the Sixers aren't planning to re-sign Ilyasova, it makes sense to ship him off for something rather than let him walk for nothing when the season ends.
