Indian sportsman detained in USA over allegedly assaulting minor girl

Tanveer Hussain, of Kashmir, who competed last weekend at the World Snowshoe Championships in Saranac Lake, is accused of sexually abusing a local girl.

Hussain was one of two competitors from Kashmir who were earlier denied visa to the United States participating in the event.

"He [Mr. Hussain] was arrested on Wednesday and charged with first degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child", the website quoted the Adirondack Daily Enterprise.

A US-based newspaper quoted a statement by the Saranac Lake Village Police that said Hussain was accused by officials of "engaging in a passionate kiss with a 12-year-old girl". Khan said that the girl had followed him during their stay here and Hussain had told the girl to go back to her home. No accusation of force was made on the 24-year Kashmiri youth.

According to a police statement issued to the USA based website the charges stem from a kiss with a 12-year-old student. It took place around Monday evening in the village.

The Bank Of Nova Scotia Bottom Line Advances 10% In Q1
Bank of Nova Scotia (The)(BNS) has the most recent dividend payout ratio of 0.49 with a 5-year average payout ratio of 0.46. The company reported $1.57 earnings per share for the quarter, topping the Zacks' consensus estimate of $1.51 by $0.06.

Mir Mudasir, president, Snowshoe Federation of India, confirmed the arrest."I am disturbed by the turn of events".

According to the website, he was granted visa following lobbying by officials and residents of the Adirondacks, as well as by Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer.

"Based on the limited communications I could have with Hussain, it didn't allow for me to properly evaluate the case and make an informed decision on behalf of my client", Barrett said. "Pack your bags. Next year you are coming to Kashmir", Hussain told them, according to one of Khan's Facebook posts. "Not only is he innocent, he is presumed innocent by law". That is how he should be seen in the community and by anyone paying attention in this case. It said "a visibly upset Hussain", with hands shackled and still wearing a maroon World Snowshoe Championships hat, pleaded with the judge not to send him to jail, the report said. "But that's really all I can say on that".

The judge decided not to accept a plea because he was not sure if Hussain fully understood the charges against him.

Hussain was arraigned in St. Armand Town Court before Justice Sheridan Swinyer and sent to Essex County Jail on $5,000 cash bail/$10,000 bond.
