Carbon Dioxide Does Not Contribute to Global Warming

When pressed by Senator Markey on whether he would review or alter the finding if confirmed, Pruitt said "There is nothing that I know that would cause a review at this point". His answer also goes against the EPA's conclusions in a 2009 report that stated greenhouse gas emissions "threaten the public health and welfare of current and future generations" because they cause warming. NASA, one of the fact-focused scientific institutions driving the aforementioned research and analysis, calls the release of carbon dioxide through human activities like deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels - on top of natural carbon dioxide emissions - "the most important long-lived "forcing" of climate change".

Pruitt's rediscovered climate change denialism comes as scientists say that February's bizarrely balmy temperatures-which brought an early spring to a large swath of the country-were a direct result of climate change.

In a speech Thursday to a room full of energy executives in Houston for CERAweek by IHS Markit, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt said there is a "fundamental question" about whether Congress gave the agency the authority to "deal with the Carbon dioxide issue".

NASA says on its website that "humans have increased atmospheric Carbon dioxide concentration by more than a third since the Industrial Revolution began".

He also joined with other Republican attorneys general in opposing the Obama administration's Clean Power Plan, which seeks to limit planet-warming carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants and sued over the agency's recent expansion of water bodies regulated under the federal Clean Water Act.

He also stated during his CNBC interview that he believed the Paris Agreement, an worldwide effort meant to work on decreasing the effects of climate change, is "a bad deal", and he wants Congress to revisit a 2009 EPA study that found carbon dioxide to be a cause of public health problems.

Confident Boeing prepares to deliver first revamped Max models this summer
Boeing had rolled out the largest member of the family, the MAX 9 on Tuesday, and also announced its plans for a stretched MAX 10. The 737 MAX 200 is a 200-passenger, higher-density seating version of the 737 MAX 8 and has been ordered to date only by Ryanair.

Sierra Club executive director Michael Brune had similar sentiments.

Today's remarks appeared to be a step backwards from language Pruitt used at his confirmation hearing in January. "Pruitt is endangering our families, and any sensible Senator should demand he is removed from his position immediately for misleading Congress and being unfit and unwilling to do the job he has been entrusted to do". "Are you consciously changing the direction of the EPA to emphasize Carbon dioxide emissions less and emphasize these other things more?"

"This is like your doctor telling you that cigarettes don't cause cancer", Jamie Henn of 350.org said.

But Pruitt's statement is nothing new.

Pruitt's comments on CNBC Thursday drew a rebuttal from former EPA administrator Gina McCarthy, who said, "Science is about empirical evidence, not beliefs".

The EPA faces severe cuts under a proposed White House budget proposal, with Pruitt set to review the agency's role in vehicle emissions standards, methane emissions and protection of America's waterways.
