Dusseldorf police: Several people injured in ax attack at train station

A man reportedly attacked passengers at the main train station in Dusseldorf Germany Thursday night

Several people were injured Thursday in what was described as a coordinated axe attack at a train station in Germany.

Another police spokesman said police were investigating whether more attackers had been involved but had no indication of that.

Rail traffic was stopped at the station as helicopters scoured overhead and police were deployed in the area of the attack, the Bild daily reported.

It is believed that at least four people were injured during the attack and a victim was seen laying on the floor as paramedics rushed to their aid.

Twitter user Bruno Macedo tweeted: "Man with axe chased by police in Dusseldorf". The train station remains closed and trains have been diverted.

Regional police said on Twitter that Dusseldorf's station is now closed due to a "comprehensive" police response there.

Heavily-armed special police forces swooped in on the station, located in the center of Germany's ninth-largest city.
