Mobile engineers in Dallas to fix 911 glitch after baby's death

Ghost calls Since November Dallas emergency call center has been dealing with'ghost calls from T Mobile phones

The Dallas Morning News has an in-depth look at the city's problem, in which false 911 calls from T-Mobile devices flood the switchboards and make it hard for legitimate calls to get through. After the recent deaths, including a six-month-old baby, the statistics may soon change. The rogue calls clog up the lines for hours at a time.

"As you can well imagine this situation is very frustrating", he said, adding, "This is the No. 1 priority we're facing right now as a city".

On Tuesday, Bridget Alex said her 6-month-old son Brandon died after falling off a bed Saturday night after her babysitter's repeated calls to 911 went unanswered. To this "Cross died Monday night, March 6, a night that hundreds of 911 callers were put on hold". In the meantime, he has advised citizens to not hang up and call if they are put on hold because calling multiple times makes the problem worse, since 911 dispatchers are required to return each hang-up call to verify if there is a legitimate emergency.

"T-Mobile has acknowledged the issue, and says it's working with city officials on resolving it".

Alex said she sped home and took her son to a hospital. Not all T-Mobile phones make the calls and they don't come at predictable times. The problem began in October and officials thought it had been resolved in January when they no longer saw a spike in the phantom calls, Broadnax said. But on Wednesday, Taffet showed up to Dallas City Hall and demanded answers, both as a grieving widower and as a reporter for the Dallas Voice. "They are not answering their phones'".

As the wireless company hastens to fix the issue, T-Mobile is blamed for the death of the infant and an adult.

Wildfires spread across larges swaths of northwestern Oklahoma Monday, leading to evacuation warnings for several towns. A 63-year-old woman near Buffalo, Oklahoma , died from a heart attack as she tried to save her farm with her husband.

However, if Stoddard County Dispatch ever gets backed up, their calls are forwarded to Sikeston DPS.

The issue is affecting one call center in Dallas, a T-Mobile spokesperson said Thursday. The Dallas Police Department is investigating after the boy's caretaker dialed 911 on Saturday evening, but was unable to get through.

Bridget Alex is left devastated after losing her son due to the 911 T-Mobile problem.

"I don't want to start hearing about more people dying as a result of people waiting to get through for help", Taffet told The Dallas News. After WFAA contacted the city about Brandon's death, Broadnax reached out directly to the CEO of T-Mobile.

"At the end of the day, I'm still going to be here hurt, because [Brandon's] not going to be here".
