But if the fully produced experience is much better than VR streams that just provide a stationary camera and pull audio from the TV broadcast, it could convince fans to open their wallet and change the entire business model of VR streams.

The live games will be available from the March Madness VR app inside the Oculus store that's available for download today. All users of the NCAA March Madness Live VR app will have additional access to highlights from each game, statistics, scoreboards and shot charts, too.

We'll have live updates and scores from the games.

Unlike many previous live sporting events broadcast in VR, these won't be free, however.

March Madness in VR is coming with two pricing tiers: A golden ticket, which costs $2.99 per game or $7.99 for all six games, will offer access to multiple courtside cameras and dedicated VR commentary from Spero Dedes, Steve Smith and Lisa Byington.

Says Will Funk, EVP, property marketing and corporate partnerships, Turner Sports, "Intel's virtual reality and 360 replay technology provide NCAA fans the most innovative viewing experience imaginable". Turner Sports along with CBS and the NCAA wil offer the tournament in VR beginning with the Sweet Sixteen. No. 1 Kansas (CBS) 6:10 p.m.

While Turner Sports knows that Intel's technology is robust and works well, it is still learning what type of new content fans will really embrace.

Intel's VR deal with Turner Sports will extend beyond basketball, too. Round of 16 games begin Thursday. "Intel True VR gives us the ability to make wonderful new VR experiences come to life and extend it to teams, leagues and broadcasters".

The volumetric video is captured and sent through more than 5 miles of fiber-optic cables, which is fed into an onsite Intel control room, where a team of producers pick out and package the replays.
