Homeowner shoots, kills showering intruder, police say

Nathaniel Joseph Rosa 31 was shot dead on Saturday morning inside the bathroom of a property in Belfair Washington after he allegedly broke in and took a shower

That is when Fanning went to another building on his property, returned to the shower, and shot Rosa, police said.

The unidentified homeowner was arrested on second-degree murder charges after deputies concluded he had time to call for help and instead went back to the home.

Fanning, 59, appeared in court Monday afternoon in connection to the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Nathanial Rosa, which occurred around 7:50 a.m. Saturday, KTLA sister station KCQP in Seattle reported.

The homeowner told police he found that the door had been kicked in.

He then retrieved his gun from his main residence, returned and fired four times into the shower.

The sheriff announced the arrest via Twitter and said it would release more information in a press release Monday.

According to Bruce Fanning's affidavit, the man might have to answer for a first-degree murder charge after he admitted killing a stranger on his property. "And we've contacted our local prosecutor, explained the circumstances to him, and he agrees that second-degree murder was an appropriate charge in this case".

"It's insane to me that he didn't call 911 when he left", she said. When he found Rosa had not left, he told investigators he shot him three times through the shower curtain.

"There is more to the story that can not be released yet", the office said in a Twitter post Saturday.
