Trump's rollback of coal rules electrifies Wyoming workers

Mind you, last week US President Donald Trump exhibited such a trait when he signed yet another executive order, this time scrapping Obama-era climate change regulations that his administration says are costing jobs in the oil and coal industries.

Shipments of USA metallurgical coal, used in the production of steel, have recently shown up in China following a two-year hiatus in part to offset banned shipments from North Korea and temporary delays from cyclone-hit Australian producers.

Earlier this week, President Trump issued another sweeping executive order that will dismantle some of the worst energy regulations and executive orders from the Obama Administration - massive, anti-middle class regulations that sought to close existing coal plants and prevent new ones from ever being built. After all, ending a three-year moratorium on leasing coal from federal land, another action in Tuesday's executive order, could boost the supply of coal to power plants.

While Republicans have blamed Obama-era environmental regulations for the loss of coal jobs, federal data show that USA mines have been losing jobs for decades under presidents from both parties because of automation and competition from natural gas and because solar panels and wind turbines can produce emissions-free electricity cheaper than burning coal. It rightly feels like a punch to the gut for Americans anxious that our children and grandchildren will be coping with the consequences of climate change. Since the average age when American coal-fired plants are scrapped is 58 years, half of them will soon be gone no matter what Trump does, and even he can not make it economically attractive to build new ones.

When President Trump signed an executive order to weaken the carbon-cutting proposals put in place by his predecessor, the corporate community responded with resounding disbelief. The moratorium on the leasing of federally controlled coal was created to keep America's largest source of coal firmly in the ground. About half of that 26 per cent cut would have come in Trump's first and maybe only term (2017-20), so say 13 per cent.

Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Environment and Natural Resources Division Jeff Wood said March 31 that he would not participate in the case over the Clean Power Plan due to his work before joining the Justice Department. This move signals both a practical and a philosophical attempt to change the U.S. narrative on climate change, says BSRIA. As demand for natural gas grows and as export markets open up for gas, you will see natural gas prices go up. Shipments of USA metallurgical coal, used in the production of steel, have recently shown up in China following a two-year hiatus - in part to offset banned shipments from North Korea and temporary delays from cyclone-hit Australian producers. "They can't afford for the most powerful advocate for fossil fuels to be away from the table".

Who is Susan Rice, the Obama ally behind the 'unmasking' controversy?
She gave, as a hypothetical answer, "if two foreigners were having a conversation" about a possible bombing with an American. The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group published a report Monday quoting former U.S.

Even in states with relatively new coal-fired power plants, recent investments in renewables have set some states on track to meet the plan's targets.

Here's the thing. El Salvador's new law doesn't apply to coal or other nonmetallic substance mining, so in that respect-both countries still have to grapple with the environmental impacts of dirty energy.

Yet, under the guise of saving jobs, Trump is effectively backing out of USA commitments in this fight.

If in fact, the Trump administration's actions on coal and climate change are pushing China into the leadership role against carbon emissions, that new leadership is undercut by China's own duplicity.

"There may not be immediate plans for utilities to bring on more coal, but the future is always uncertain in this market", he said.

Coal is by far the most polluting of the fossil fuels, producing twice as much carbon dioxide as gas does for the same amount of energy, but that alone wasn't enough to turn the energy industry against it.
