Amazon Launches Fire TV Media Streamer With Alexa Remote in the UK

Should You Buy a Fire TV or Fire TV Stick

The new update will be rolling out to customers today. The most important addition comes in the form of the Fire TV Stick's new Alexa Voice Remote.

The new quad-core Amazon Fire TV Stick, announced in the United States a year ago, is said to be 30 per cent faster than its predecessor. Today Amazon also announced that it will be pushing out an update that adds Alexa to all Fire TV hardware in the UK.

The Fire TV Stick retails at £39.99 ($50). Those of you who don't own a voice remote can also use Alexa, but only with the help of the Fire TV app for Android devices.

Fire TV now features an overhauled Netflix-type user interface - called the Cinematic UI - that is created to make finding movies and TV shows easier.

However Fire TV Stick and Fire TV customers will still be able to take advantage of a number of Alexa's capabilities. As well as voice commands for Alexa, the system can also cope with video related requests such as "find Carrie Fisher movies" or "skip back ten minutes" by voice.

The stick - which has become the best-selling streaming device in the United Kingdom - lets viewers access catch-up services from broadcasters as well as online streaming sites such as Netflix.

Vice President of Amazon Devices International, Jorrit Van der Meulen said: "This is a big day for Fire TV customers".

Amazon has announced the launch of their latest Fire TV Stick in the United Kingdom, the device has gone on sale in the United Kingdom from today.

So, if you have any Fire TV or Fire TV Stick devices you'll now be able to use the AI-powered assistant from within the Fire TV interface - not just to pull up TV shows but to manage your smart home and ask questions. It features a new quad-core processor that makes it 30 percent faster than the previous version, according to the company.
