Davis Cup: US wins doubles to stay alive in quarterfinal

It was the flawless day for France as they captured a 2-0 lead over Great Britain in the 2017 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas quarter-finals on Friday.

Nick Kyrgios yesterday eased past John Isner 7-5, 7-6 (7/5), 7-6 (7/5) in a duel of big servers to fire Australia to a 2-0 lead over the USA in their Davis Cup World Group quarter-final in Brisbane, Australia.

"I played him three times and I'm a little used to the match-up", he said. Thompson, Australians No. 2 singles behind No. 16 Kyrgios, was a prohibitive underdog against Sock.

The victor of the quarter-final will face either Belgium or Italy in September's semi-finals.

"There is no greater honour", Thompson said after the match. "Im really proud of both boys, but theres still a bloody long way to go".

"In-form Sock, the highest ranked player in the tie at world number 15, will be going into the unknown all weekend as he has never previously faced Kyrgios either".

Courier said his team would rally around Sock and noted that his United States team had lost to Croatia a year ago from two matches up after the first day.

"I'm pretty happy with the guy I've got on the other side of the net".

Michigan boy, 11, hangs himself after social media prank
She said she hopes the devastating incident sends the message that parents have to be aware of the dark side of social media. Goss says the accused girl was Tysen's girlfriend, who allegedly faked her own suicide on various social media sites.

Australia are seeking revenge after losing t o the US in the first round a year ago and would progress to the semi-finals for only the second time since 2006 if Sam Groth and John Peers can wrap things up against Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey on Saturday.

Sock, who has played 5hr 34min of tennis in two days, is scheduled to play Kyrgios first-up, with John Isner to take on Thompson in the fifth and final match.

Success allowed Sock to gain a measure of revenge on Thompson after his surprise singles defeat to the 22-year-old, and he told daviscup.com: "Jordan played great yesterday, he deserved to win, he was the better player".

Lacking his opponent's court speed, Isner swung for the fences and scrapped to within two points of forcing another set, but two fierce returns off the Australian's racquet stole the momentum and set up Kyrgios for his match-winning 20th ace.

Kyrgios was able to adopt a front-runner's calm after he grabbed back a first-set break of serve.

Generally over best-of-five on the day the better player will win.

"Just playing within myself, not trying to go too big", Thompson said post-match.

Jordan Thompson will face John Isner, who was in excellent form despite losing to Kyrgios on Saturday over three tense sets.
