Malala receives highest UN honour to promote girls education

Burger King's newest TV ad has a disastrous flaw

He then applauded her "courageous defense of the rights of all people, including women and girls, to education and equality" as well as her "unwavering commitment to peace".

Addressing a large number of Ambassadors, diplomats and top United Nations officials present at the occasion, Malala expressed the hope that while representing their own countries they also speak out for human rights and for education which was a human right.

On October 9, 2012, as 15-year-old Malala rode a bus home from school with friends on their way home from school, a masked gunman boarded the bus and asked which girl was Malala. There she began to blog anonymously for the BBC's Urdu language site, campaigning for the right of girls to an education.

Yousafzai, who is now based in the United Kingdom, went on to make a full recovery, and has continued to campaign for young women's access to education.

"Accepting the accolade, Ms Yousafzai said: "(Bringing change) starts with us and it should start now".

Moments later, Trudeau presented her with a certificate documenting her as a honourary Canadian, only the sixth person to receive the honour and the youngest ever.

UN News: Your father is here with you today and he was very instrumental in seeing that you went to school. "And I think he needs to go to these refugee camps", Yousafzai said.

100 years ago, US entered World War I
After the offer became public, the USA declared war. "Conflicts such as the Balkan wars increased tensions, and it kept building". Next, on February 1, Germany resumed unrestricted submarine warfare, sinking merchant ships without warning in worldwide waters.

Pakistan's militant Islamist groups, including the Taliban, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, and their affiliates, use attacks on schools and universities to foster intolerance and exclusion, to target symbols of the government, and, particularly, to drive girls out of school.

Yousafzai was airlifted to a Pakistani military hospital in Peshawar, and four days later to an intensive care unit in Birmingham, England.

Yousafzai told the young audience that the fact that extremists tried to kill her and were unsuccessful was "clear evidence that no one can stop" her. I have second life for the objective of [pressing for] education and I'll continue working on [this issue].

Nobel Peace Prize victor Malala Yousafzai has been made a UN Messenger of Peace.

"The true message of Islam is peace, the word Islam itself means peace", she said, adding that she was "proud to be a Muslim".

"She took that bullet as a symbol of the absolutely non-negotiable and urgent need to make education an innate part of growing up for every girl, in every place and for all times", she remarked. Girls often lack access to education because they have to work, care for younger siblings or are married early. She has also become a regular speaker at global events, has set up the Malala Fund to support girls' education projects in developing countries and continues her studies in Britain, where she received medical treatment after she was shot. "Girls were stopped from going to school".
