Mini Super Nintendo? SNES Classic may launch this year

NES classic Uber

Nintendo created a frenzy among vintage video game fans with the NES Classic.

It would be a real treat if this retro console re-release becomes an annual tradition from Nintendo.

The website Eurogamer - whose sources have been on the money in the past - is now claiming Nintendo is putting a tiny Super NES into production for a Holiday 2017 release.

Back in December, Nintendo filed a trademark for the SNES' Super Famicon controller, a move that supports this rumor.

When the NES Mini proved a success, many were wondering if it would lead to the Japanese gaming giant releasing other systems to cash in on the love for older games. Despite the demand, Nintendo unexpectedly halted production of the console last week. Maybe next year we'll get an N64 Classic Edition with Goldeneye and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. What's more, while Nintendo technically sold more NES than SNES consoles over their respective lifetimes (roughly 62 million versus 49 million), the SNES is generally remembered as the superior experience. Eurogamer, which first reported about the SNES Mini, says that Nintendo did not respond when asked for comment. The SNES Mini seems a pretty good candidate.

Bale out of Bayern return, doubt for Clasico
Real last kept a clean sheet against minnows Alaves on April 2 and have not looked solid at the back all season. But he added: 'Bayern have a lot of quality players and a great squad, we can't worry only about Lewandowski'.

If you weren't able to purchase the NES Classic Edition prior to its discontinuation, we feel your pain.

Although not yet announced, Eurogamer reports that the SNES Classic Mini is set to launch this holiday season.

The price and the included games are still not known and Nintendo has not confirmed anything. It is now scheduled for a launch ahead of Christmas later this year.

As usual, you should take the above with a pinch of salt until Nintendo makes it official, but it's looking likely to be accurate, especially considering current events. If anything, the SNES version is only going to be more popular if Nintendo chooses the right 30 games to ship with it. Who among us would not love to spend a Christmas morning ripping through Donkey Kong Country or the original Super Mario Kart?
