MLB Suspending Red Sox Pitcher Matt Barnes Following Machado Incident

Fenway Park as seen from Lansdowne Street in 2016

Matt Barnes has dropped his appeal and will begin serving his four-game suspension tonight.

The rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles soared to a new level over the weekend, and there's no telling what might happen when they soon meet again. In his absence, the Red Sox likely will use Heath Hembree as their primary eighth-inning reliever.

Barnes will miss the remaining two games in the Yankees series and the first two games of the series against the Chicago Cubs. "I know that and you know that".

I understand that some of these "unwritten rules" in sports exist, but the biggest one is that you don't intentionally try to hurt other players.

I never thought I'd see the day where I had to defend the leadership qualities of Dustin Pedroia.

Generally speaking, bean balls are thrown somewhere between the back and backside of the target. Pretty much, Barnes should of threw it anywhere else but at his head.

Top NFL Draft prospect Gareon Conley accused of sexual assault
Cleveland 19 is also looking into why the police hadn't filed a completed report about the incident almost two weeks later. Both the Jets and Eagles hosted Conley on a pre-draft visit, which underscores their interest in perhaps drafting him.

Joe Torre, MLB's chief baseball officer, announced Sano's suspension Monday.

Estes wasn't even a Met in 2000, when Hall of Famer Mike Piazza, who'd been hitting Roger Clemens like a batting practice pitcher in his career to that point, got coned by Clemens in pretty apparent frustration.

The pitch that Barnes threw to Machado was unacceptable, and went far beyond what is expected when a retaliatory beanball is thrown.

Twins general manager Thad Levine said the organization will support Sano's decision to appeal "by providing video and some commentary around the situation that Major League Baseball may otherwise not have the benefit of".

Pedroia didn't say who the "they" were, but presumably Barnes was going on orders, following Eduardo Rodriguez's attempts to hit Machado didn't quite do the trick.

You play the game hard.
