Rallies focus on danger posed by climate change

Crowds gathered in Washington DC to march against climate change and the Trump administration’s stance on environmental issue

Timed to coincide with the People's Climate March & Rally in Washington, D.C., the Sonoma Climate Coalition has organized two tributaries of environmental advocacy, both beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The Washington D.C. march has three components to it: build, resist and rise.

Hundreds of opponents of President Nicolas Maduro marched to a military prison outside Caracas to demand the release of Leopoldo Lopez and other jailed activists they consider political prisoners. Scientists, religious groups, advocates for low-income people of color, labor unions, anti-corporate activists and more plan to march down Pennsylvania Avenue and encircle the White House.

Saturday's march was planned before November's presidential election took place.

Thousands of people across the USA are marking President Donald Trump's hundredth day in office by marching in protest of his environmental policies.

Easy choice: Browns CB Haden wants Garrett with No. 1 pick
At No. 1 , the Browns, for the first time in 17 years, have complete control over who they land with their first overall pick. While both players may have received medical clearance from some teams, that doesn't mean all clubs have passed them.

"We've already seen just how effective people power is against this administration: Trumpcare? Withdrawn. Muslim ban? Blocked", the group's website says. Marchers denounced policymakers who ignore the scientific consensus on climate change and other issues. It was as large as the inaugural People's Climate March, with people carrying signs that focused on climate justice and targeted top officials, including Pruitt and Trump.

It's not clear how many people will turn out for Saturday's march in D.C. As of Friday, almost 12,000 people had RSVP'd on Facebook. Celebrities, including Leonardo DiCaprio and former Vice President Al Gore, are expected to march as well. In 2015, the US along with the other countries finalized the deal and then-President Barack Obama continued to make climate change a priority in his last years in office. Just one week later, those who care about science and climate change will now have an opportunity to march once again. "It impacts him", Holmes told CNN.

"I live on the water and I spend a lot of time outdoors and I just want to make sure that this handsome planet is here for my children and my grandchildren", said Debbie Dorsey of Edgewater, Maryland, whose bright green sign read "There is no 'Planet B'".

Barbara Ley, a UD professor in the Department of Communication and Women and Gender Studies and supervisor of the survey, said UD did not conduct a study on the People's Climate March, but she thinks The March for Science could have helped fuel interest in the event. She held a sign that warned how rising sea levels could affect Mar-a-Lago, Trump's Florida resort.
