Residents begin rebuilding after tornadoes rip through East Texas

Parts of the U.S. South and Midwest braced for flooding and possible tornadoes Monday following a weekend of deadly torrents and powerful winds that claimed at least 15 lives.

The National Weather Service said at least three tornadoes struck Eustace, Caney City and Canton.

Four people died in east Texas after at least four tornadoes hit the state.

One woman was killed when a tree fell on her mobile home near Little Rock, and the body of a 24-year-old woman was found washed up in a creek.

"It is heartbreaking and upsetting to say the least", Everett told reporters at a news conference Sunday morning. The winds flipped over cars, snapped trees, destroyed houses and left roads strewn with debris and fallen power lines, according to photographs and video published by the Dallas Morning News.

Earlier, Gov. Abbott tweeted that Texas Task Force 2 had been sent to assist in Canton and Van Zandt County.

Rainfall amounts with this next storm will not be as much as the incredible amounts we experienced this past weekend, but given the fact that the ground is saturated and rivers/streams are very high, this will only raise the flooding concern through the central part of the country.

Crews are out today to survey any additional tornadoes.

Two US troops killed fighting ISIS in Afghanistan
Two U.S. service members died during operations against the Islamic State in eastern Afghanistan, the Pentagon said on Thursday. As per the report, the Afghan government had control over only 52 percent of Afghanistan's 407 districts past year .

Two deaths were also reported in Missouri, including a woman who drowned after being swept away in a auto.

Aerial footage of the Missouri storms showed entire communities subsumed in flood waters, and two people died as a result of the storms.

In Arkansas, emergency workers were searching for two children - a 4 year old and an 18 month old - after the vehicle they were traveling in with their mother was swept off the road in Hindsville, Madison County, Saturday afternoon. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency didn't give details.

The National Weather Service said Canton was hit by four tornadoes, with two packing winds of 136 miles to 165 miles (219 km to 265 km) per hour.

Farther north, the storms were causing massive flooding. Authorities speculate there might have been as many as 20 areas hit by strong winds Sunday, throughout the state.

Hundreds of people spent Monday sandbagging Missouri towns along the Meramec River, just 16 months after record flooding along the suburban St. Louis waterway. The woman's body was found Saturday in a field near Clever, Missouri. Several men worked frantically in an area 50 miles from Dallas to pull a man and two young children from an overturned pickup in rushing water.

'We'd be out there working and get a report of another tornado on the ground, ' Kirkpatrick said.
