UK Labour leader accuses Theresa May of 'pandering' to Trump

Labour is trailing badly in opinion polls, with leader Jeremy Corbyn criticized by some supporters for not opposing Prime Minister Theresa May's European Union exit strategy strongly enough, and by others for not embracing Brexit more enthusiastically.

She said: "He says he wants to change Britain - and that's true".

The muted response from the right of the party to the leaked Labour manifesto, which is further to the left than they would like, reflects their determination not to offer Corbyn any excuse to avoid the blame for the impending catastrophe.

The Labour leader said that the terms of Article 5 of the Nato treaty, which commits member-states to collective self defence, could in some circumstances be fulfilled without the use of military force, by deploying economic and diplomatic pressure.

But it was noticeable how the former PM did not mention Mr Corbyn once in a 25-minute speech and urged people to elect Labour candidates to "hold the Government to account"; a clear acceptance from the Big Beast that Labour was heading for the abyss of defeat.

Jeremy Corbyn threw Labour's commitment to the Trident into doubt by suggesting a multi-billion pound replacement of the nuclear weapons system could be reviewed if the party wins power next month.

American detained in North Korea over 'hostile acts'
Some foreigners have said after their release that their declarations of guilt had been coerced while in North Korean custody. Warmbier was detained in January 2016 and sentenced to 15 years hard labour for attempting to steal a propaganda banner.

"So no more hand-holding with Donald Trump - a Labour government will conduct a robust and independent foreign policy made in London".

Mr Corbyn, a long-standing critic of interventions in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, will say that the US-led "war on terror" which followed the 9/11 attacks of 2001 had failed to deliver security and that a new approach was needed.

But he was against the now routine "unilateral wars and interventions", a "failed recipe that has served us so badly".

In a reference to the "coalition of chaos" attack used against him by the Tories, Mr Corbyn warned that Mrs May "seeks to build a coalition of risk and insecurity with Donald Trump". They have not increased our security at home - just the opposite. "But I am not a pacifist", he said. But the prime minister received three times the number of retweets and favourites per tweet, on average.

"I accept that military action, under global law and as a genuine last resort, is in some circumstances necessary", he said.

"The decision was not made as part of a so-called electoral alliance but to protect a marginal seat from falling into Conservative hands", the statement said.

"Jeremy Corbyn is simply too weak and shambolic to stand up to terrorists and tyrants who want to do us harm".
