'Star Wars' influences top baby names; Caitlyn plunges in popularity

In 2016, the top five names for boys were Noah, Liam, Mason, Jacob and William, while girl names including Emma, Olivia, Sophia, Ava and Isabella were the most popular.

Noah has held that top spot four times overall, while Emma three times.

In fact, in 2016, the name Donald dropped 45 spots below its 2015 baby name ranking, according to the Social Security Administration's yearly Popular Names list.

In 1950, only five percent of USA parents chose a name for their baby that wasn't in the top 1,000 names By 2012 it was up to 27 percent. Kylo jumped 2,368 spots to No. 901.

For girls, the name Kehlani jumped from 3,359 in 2015 to 872 in 2016. Parents appear to be making something old - new again. The 2016 list features some of the same names at the top. Music fans will recognize Kehlani from artist Kehlani Parrish, and Star Wars fans will remember Kylo from "The Force Awakens". "In part, we just want to avoid controversy in picking names".
