Led coalition strike against Syrian forces 'absolutely unacceptable' - Russian Foreign Ministry

US-led coalition aircraft struck a pro-regime convoy apparently transporting Shia militia men in Syria as it headed toward a remote coalition garrison near the Jordanian border last night, U.S. officials said.

A U.S. military strike in Syria on Thursday was "government terrorism" and caused a massacre, Syrian government negotiator Bashar al-Ja'afari said on Friday.

"We notified the coalition that we were being attacked by the Syrian army and Iranians at this point and the coalition came and destroyed the advancing convoy", Saloum said.

A USA defence official said the convoy had not responded to numerous warnings that it was "getting too close to coalition forces".

A second U.S. defense official said that an additional strike did hit the convoy after the vehicles continued toward the base.

The US has been backing the Maghawir and Jaysh al-Thawra fighters in the near the Syria, Jordan, Iraq border.

He was asked if the airstrike increases the USA role in the Syrian war.

"Coalition forces have operated in the At Tanf area for many months, training and advising vetted partner forces who are fighting" the Islamic State, or ISIS or ISIL, in Syria, the officials added.

Edouard Philippe takes office as new French prime minister
In keeping with tradition, the French president paid a visit to Merkel in his first trip overseas after taking office yesterday. Philippe's appointment ticks several boxes for the 39-year-old Macron, France's youngest president, who took power on Sunday.

The statement stressed that the Syrian army will continue the war on the terrorist groups and the USA attack will not terrorize the army from continuing the battles on terrorism. Especially if such actions are committed against the Syrian armed forces.

The US-backed forces in that area are fighting against Islamic State militants.

Last month, however, it launched a barrage of missiles at Syria's Shayrat airbase, which it said was the launch pad for an alleged chemical attack that killed dozens of civilians.

"A convoy going down the road didn't respond to numerous ways for it to be warned off from getting too close to coalition forces in al-Tanf", a Pentagon official said. It is unclear whether Russian troops were operating with the pro-Syrian government forces at the time of the attack.

The Syrian Civil War began in March 2011 as protest demonstrations against the Assad regime.

After a convoy of about twenty vehicles including tanks and bulldozers entered the deconfliction zone, U.S aircraft fired warning shots.

Russian Federation supports the ceasefire in Syria while the U.S. weakens the effort fighting against terrorist groups, he added.
