Mike Zimmer Says He Plans to Keep Coaching Despite Eye Problems

Minnesota Vikings podcast: On Teddy Bridgewater, Mike Zimmer, Bud Grant and OTAs

"At that point he was throwing the ball really well", Zimmer said. "I'll be back. We can put that retiring thing to bed quickly".

The Vikings head coach left Minnesota on Monday to head to his ranch in Kentucky following his eighth right eye procedure, but he has been in constant contact with both players and coaches while recovering. In between fishing trips and walks around his property, he has been watching film of the Vikings' practices, texting players observations from what he's seen, and conducting conference calls with his coaching staff.

After revealing that he is eyeing a return date to the Vikings on June 4, Zimmer was quick to eliminate any doubts regarding his eye problem affecting the future of his coaching career. "We are relaying his message and his vision for this football team and I think everyone is pitching in to make sure we work through what we need to work through and get improvement in areas we need to improve".

"I can't see through the gas bubble", Zimmer said from his offseason home near Cincinnati. "I do miss being in the meetings with the players and I miss especially being out on the field where I can give immediate feedback to technique and things like that". I've been pretty smart about it. The hope is that the retina stays in place after the bubble dissolves. "He's got me off of the drops I was on to get the pressure back normalized".

"I don't want to go blind in this eye (but) if that's what it is, that's what it is", he said.

Chinese paper applauds anti-spy efforts after report CIA sources killed
Working out a secret facility in USA , the probe looked into each and every aspect of the CIA's China operation. But a recently released report suggested that people who were anxious about China had every reason to be.

Clearly, Zimmer isn't messing around.

Zimmer said he's received plenty of positive support from those in and out of the NFL. "(The support) has been awfully good".

"Obviously I've thought about it, but this is not going to keep me from coaching one way or another", Zimmer said.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer watches action at mini camp. "I asked (the doctors) one time, 'Is this a lost cause?" If it is, just let it go. If it was, I'd tell you'.
