Schapelle Corby's first Instagram post

Australian Schapelle Corby was jailed after being arrested in Bali in 2004 with marijuana stashed in her surfing gear

Australian drug convict Schapelle Corby is set to be deported from the Indonesian island of Bali on Saturday night after completing a twelve-and-a-half-year sentence for smuggling marijuana, a case that strained ties between the neighbouring countries.

Corby spent her final day in Bali holed up inside her Kuta home as her sister Mercedes lashed out at the media and a jail doctor declared her healthy and well ahead of today's release and deportation.

Convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby has landed back in Australia from Bali after managing to thwart nosy media, choosing instead to share her journey with her newly acquired 72,000 Instagram followers.

So desperate were the media for a glimpse of the woman dubbed the Ganja Queen in Indonesia, one journalist fell off the wall bordering the parole office - where she signed final documents - falling two metres to a sickening thud.

She wore dark glasses and carried a bag that said: "Where's William Tyrell?" referring to the Australian boy who disappeared from Kendall in NSW aged three years old.

Captain Sugriwa said the protection has been ordered by Bali's police chief to ensure a safe deportation of the Australian. If she got the death sentence she can not rehabilitate.

He last saw Corby at Kerobokan prison in February 2014 when she underwent a medical test before being granted parole.

Her sister Mercedes lives on the Gold Coast, while her mother lives in Loganlea, south of Brisbane.

"We will pray for her that she will repent, God wants humans to return to the right path", he said. "I don't see a security threat for her but we are responsible as police, whether there is a threat or not".

Ari Budijanto, the head of Ngurah Rai Immigration office, said that Corby would be banned from entering Indonesia for at least six months.

It is expected Corby will be escorted through a private exit at the airport, rather than being ushered through the public arrivals terminal in an attempt to avoid the waiting media scrum.

Corby was led out of the Bali villa hidden under a scarf and wearing a pair of sunglasses before being whisked away in a convoy that included armoured vehicles
Australian trafficker Corby to return home amid media storm

On Sunday morning, tired travellers arrived to the sounds of a media scrum converging on the Brisbane International Airport's arrivals terminal, as Ms Corby returned home.

It took her about 30 minutes to disembark and clear security before she was whisked into a vehicle on her way to her mother's home.

Corby's case captured the attention of Australians, thousands of whom watched live as she learned her fate in a Balinese courtroom in 2005. "I'm sure it was be far worse when she gets home".

The Bali corrections chief Surung Pasaribu seemed as ever bemused by the fame of Bali's most famous parolee: "I don't understand Instagram, I don't know how to read Instagram", he said.

The Corby family played the media like a violin.

Mr Widiada said four police cars would escort Corby from her home to the parole board and then to the airport.

After 13 years in Bali, Schapelle Corby has returned to Brisbane.

Under Australian law, she will not be able to directly profit from telling her story.

"The vehicle is usually used to take prisoners", he said, adding that the Corby family had not sought this.

Released from active supervision a few hours early, she would not be technically free until midnight, but no one was watching the clock.
