Pelley out as "CBS Evening News" anchor

Scott Pelley out at'CBS Evening News

"CBS News planned to make the announcement about Pelley leaving "Evening News" and going back to "60 Minutes" full-time next week, when Pelley was back from Syria".

Mason was assigned to the London Bureau from 1987-1990 and was CBS News' Chief Moscow Correspondent from 1991-1993. On Wednesday two sources familiar with the situation confirmed reports that CBS is expected to announce Pelley's departure shortly.

Pelley succeeded Katie Couric as anchor on June 5, 2011. The milestone season for the program "requires Scott's full contribution", CBS President David Rhodes said. CBS is a unit of CBS Corp.

Jeff Fager, executive producer of "60 Mintues", said: "It is exciting for all of us, and good for our viewers, that he will be focusing all of his efforts on '60 Minutes'".

15000 pilgrims stranded at Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway
SP Chamoli Tripti Bhatt told ANI, "Badrinath Highway near Hathi parbat which was shut due to landslide is now open". "The road will be opened for the traffic by this afternoon today", a district official said.

NewsBusters readers will remember Mason as a frequent fill-in host on not only CBS This Morning but CBS Evening News as well, covering everything from business to music to politics to unemployment rates.

Since 2011, CBS Evening News viewers have been accustomed to watching Scott Pelley's broadcasts of the news almost every night. "I'm glad to accept this assignment with continuing gratitude". The NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt was down 4 percent in viewers and 6 percent in the 25-54 demographic upon which television news is sold. The show won seven Emmys in his term and a slew of journalism awards. He is also a frequent contributor to CBS NEWS SUNDAY MORNING. There has been no word on Pelley's replacement for the 'Evening News'. But sources told The Post that the network decided not to renew Pelley's contract after unsatisfactory ratings during his tenure. Evening news ratings have been down while news junkies turn to prime-time cable newscasts.

Page Six had previously reported in December that Pelley might be on his way out of the anchor chair position on the show.
