Report car hits pedestrians on London Bridge, some said hurt

Incident on London Bridge

More than one person is dead after a white van mowed down five to six pedestrians on London Bridge on a busy Saturday night at around 10.10pm (5.10am Singapore time on Sunday), while stabbings and gunfire were reported at nearby Borough Market where people were dining at the many restaurants and bars there.

There are reported to be multiple casualties and more than one fatality.

In March, a knife-wielding man plowed a auto into pedestrians on London's Westminster Bridge and later stabbed a police officer to death inside the gates of Parliament.

He said: "I could see on my left a further individual was having CPR performed on them by the emergency services".

On May 22, a British-born suicide bomber killed 22 people and injured 59 others at Ariana Grande's concert in Manchester, England. There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Members of the public were told by police to "run as fast as they could" westbound. Hours after the attack the area remained sealed off. A number of London hospitals were under lockdown, including Guy's and St. Thomas', and Evelina. Police are asking people to clear the area, and if they can not, to lock themselves in a room and shelter in place.

He told the station: "I didn't see the van mount the kerb but I saw everything else".

"He swerved right 'round me and then hit about five or six people".

"It was horrendous", he said.

At nearby Borough Market there were reports of three men jumping out of a van with long knives who then began stabbing people. Multiple people have suffered serious injuries.

"People started running and screaming, and the van crashes into the railing behind".

"A man suddenly appeared in the restaurant with a massive knife - some people in the restaurant believe there may have been another man - but it was so chaotic it was hard to tell", the witness said.

Witnesses describe the scene as "horrific".

"They hit the emergency alarm".

The van then swerved into oncoming traffic before hitting a bus stop and coming to a stop, Roberts said.

Witnesses speak to the media after walking away from inside a police cordon following a terror attack in London, June 4, 2017.

The State Department issued a statement condemning the attacks as "cowardly".

Similar attacks, in Berlin, Nice, Brussels and Paris, have been carried out by militants over the past couple of years.

"(T) he incidents at #LondonBridge & #BoroughMarket were declared as terrorist incidents", the London Metropolitan Police said on Twitter, minutes after Prime Minister Theresa May said her government was treating the case as a "potential act of terrorism".

Both incidents were confirmed as terrorism.

London Ambulance have said: "We're responding to this incident and more information will follow when we have it".

President Donald Trump tweeted a pledge of help and support for London and argued in favour of his controversial travel ban as London authorities responded to the attacks. Reuters was unable to immediately verify her account.

Police also responded to a stabbing incident in the Vauxhall area, but said it was unconnected to the London Bridge and Borough Market incidents. Witnesses also reported seeing people being stabbed by at least one man.

There are unconfirmed reports that least seven people have been stabbed as witnesses told of bodies "strewn" on the road at the landmark in central London.
