Bucks County Free Library to launch Summer Reading program

Help Carnegie Library reach its ambitious new "180,000 book Summer Reading Challenge" at this outdoor celebration open to all ages.

Registration begins on June 5 and continues through June 17.at all county libraries.

People of all ages are invited to join the library system's Summer Reading program, which has a goal of having participants reach a total of 2 million minutes of reading time this summer. At registration, participants will receive the program guidelines, a reading log and a schedule of events.

"Our summer reading program is created to help forestall the "summer slide" in reading that some students experience during the school break", she said in a statement.

"This summer our program will focus on those four areas".

Prizes will be offered for reading, as well as a number of fun and free activities hosted throughout the summer, including puppet shows, art classes, and science presentations. Mondays will be Movie Mondays at 2 p.m., Tuesdays will be preschool storytime at 10:30 a.m. and Thursdays will be Construction Corners.

This year's theme is "Build a Better World" and, as always, the Challenge is not just about reading, it's about discovering, creating, doing and volunteering.
