SpaceX poised for Thursday cargo launch to space station

The weather forecast is 70 percent favorable, with a risk of afternoon thunderstorms.

The launch is rescheduled for June 3 at 5:07 p.m.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) - Stormy weather has thwarted SpaceX's effort to launch its first recycled cargo ship to the International Space Station.

The Dragon capsule for this mission was previously used in 2014 to carry supplies to the space station.

The Spaceflight Now Twitter page, said that the weather is currently a "no go" for the launch but updates continue to come in on the status of the launch. You can watch Saturday's launch attempt live here on Space.com, courtesy of NASA. Last year, SpaceX launched a total of eight missions before a launch-pad explosion that destroyed a rocket and commercial satellite, grounding the company for several months.

The live feed for the launch will start around 20 minutes prior to the window, which means around 5:35 PM EDT or 2:35 PM PDT.

The truck payloads include the Roll-Out Solar Array (ROSA) solar panels, the Multiple User System for Earth Sensing (MUSES) facility which hosts Earth-viewing instruments and tools for Earth-observation and equipment to study neutron stars with the Neutron Star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER) payload. It is expected that the first stage of the rocket will make a landing after delivering the Dragon space capsule into orbit.

The Dragon, flying a mission designated SpX-11 by NASA, is carrying more than 2,700 kilograms of cargo for the ISS.

On Thursday afternoon, SpaceX is planning to relaunch a Dragon supply capsule that already spent a month in space almost three years ago. This launch will be the eleventh commercial resupply services flight for SpaceX. Sitting atop it was a Dragon spacecraft (CRS-4) with more than two tons of supplies and gear.

The Dragon will be welcomed by United States astronauts Peggy Whitson and Jack Fischer, who will grapple the capsule with the help of ISS' 57-foot-long robotic arm.

If successful, the Dragon will be captured by a 57-foot-long robotic arm on Sunday to dock with the space station, installed to the station's Harmony module and unpacked by the Expedition 51 crew.

The launch will mark the 100th from historic Kennedy Space Center pad 39A, where Apollo 11 launched to the moon.

Reusing a spacecraft isn't new.
