Federal Grand Jury Indicts Accused NSA Leaker Reality Winner

US intelligence contractor heads to court on leak charges

Winner's mother told NBC News on Tuesday that victor "would not jeopardize anybody's safety" and was "terrified" when she returned to her home in Augusta on Saturday to find federal agents waiting for her.

She started learning Arabic on her own before she finished high school, a language she loved, said her mother, Billie Winner-Davis. She follows 50 twitter accounts, among them Edward Snowden and Wikileaks. "She was not expecting any of this".

The indictment filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court charges 25-year-old Reality Winner with a single count of illegally retaining and transmitting national defense information.

If convicted, victor could face up to 10 years in prison. She's a veteran of the United States Air Force.

The Affidavit says a visible crease mark on the document passed to a website called "The Intercept" tipped them off that the file was printed from a secure server.

"She offered up her life for this nation and to see her treated so vilely is an insult to every person who's ever worn a uniform", Winner's father, Gary Davis, said. I didn't know what company she worked for.

Winner's attorney, Titus Nichols, did not immediately return a call seeking comment Thursday.

Investigators said in court records that they wanted to search her property for a variety of computer information as well as possible contacts with media outlets and any possible contacts with "foreign governments, foreign powers, or agents of foreign powers".

That appears to be the clue that helped authorities determine the identity of a National Security Agency contractor who leaked a highly classified report. She had top secret security clearance.

Reality Winner was caught because she was stupid, not because of anything the reporter (s) did or didn't do.

Actually, Hillary Clinton makes a good -- and awkward -- point
Of Hillary's attack against the Democratic Party, Fallon refused to "point fingers at the DNC", adding: "I won't back that". Though she did not mention President Donald Trump by name, Clinton told the crowd she was "worried" by his presidency.

"She was afraid she was going to disappear, that they were going to make her disappear". During that time, he said, victor provided real-time translation to Americans conducting field missions.

Victor served in the Air Force from December 2010 to 2016.

Winner's mother and stepfather told ABC affiliate WSB-TV in Atlanta earlier this week that victor, an Air Force veteran, is a patriot.

U.S. intelligence agencies including the NSA and Central Intelligence Agency have fallen victim to several thefts of classified material in recent years, often at the hands of a federal contractor. "She serves her community; she served her country".

The Department of Justice has said victor admitted to the accusations against her, but Nichols, told the Associated Press "if there is a confession, the government has not shown it to me".

Victor was held at the jail in Lincoln County, Georgia, where she had an 11-minute court appearance. The judge denied bond.

She added that Winner's leak "just shows how big a bullet we dodged by electing Trump".

Because of her training, the indictment contends, victor knew disclosure of the document could endanger national security. Her mother and step-father have repeatedly pleaded for everyone to treat Reality Winner "fairly". She went to Belize for three days in May, and she has access to $30,000 to $35,000 of her own savings and over $12,000 raised by a Go Fund Me page, Golari said.

A Georgia woman charged with leaking US government secrets to a reporter shared sometimes scathing opinions on President Donald Trump before her arrest.
