Ice Cube takes Bill Maher to task over N-word controversy

Sanders supported and worked for Bernie Sanders’ presidential team

To be fair to Maher, he was pretty contrite about the whole thing and Cube spoke his piece with honesty and admitted that while he was a fan of Maher and his show, he said that Maher "was gonna f*ck up sooner or later".

Maher asked Dyson, a longtime friend, "to school me".

"That's a great place to begin, Bill", Dyson said.

He added, "The word is Nigger and it's a powerful word for bad and it's offspring Nigga has been a power filled word used by those once oppressed...black have BIGGER things than NIGGER to concern ourselves with: Black Banks, Gentrification, Economics & Trade Education". He quickly pivoted to talking about "someone who had a worse week than me, Donald Trump". It doesn't matter that it was not said in malice, it caused pain and that's why I apologized.

"I'm not here to do that. And I apologize. And you know, more than that I can't do". "That's honest. I'm not that big of an asshole".

Maher also mentioned Kathy Griffin, "who by the way owes me a fruit basket for getting her off the front page". But he pointed to her case and his as examples of where comedians went too far.

Celebrity guest Ice Cube took Maher to task, telling him honestly, "It's like a knife, man".

"Sometimes you sound like a redneck trucker", Cube responded.

Ostapenko and Halep will determine the champion of Roland Garros
It was clear from the start that Ostapenko was going to be the aggressor and she edged a first set in which she hit 21 winners. Win or lose, Ostapenko will have her career prize money more than double after this match.

Ice Cube appeared on the second-half of the show to delivered a teachable moment.

"Do you truly understand the need to name and to challenge that unconscious white privilege that exists and how it hurts black people, even intentionally?"

"Because I think that there's guys who are a little too familiar ... who might have a black girlfriend or two that made them some Kool-Aid every now and then, and they think they can cross the line".

Also scheduled were CNN political analyst David Gregory, former Republican Rep. David Jolly of Florida and activist Symone Sanders.

But Dyson wasn't the only one who responded to Maher's racial remark on Real Time Friday night.

Joining him in the debate was hip-hop historian/educator/author Michael Eric Dyson and rapper Ice Cube.

"Comedians are a special kind of monkey", was Maher's follow-up. "So to speak", Dyson said. "I mean we're all evolving. We are a trained thing that just tried to get a laugh".
