Azerbaijan GP 2017 Qualifying: Hamilton dominates, Ricciardo slips up and Stroll surprises

Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes F1 team came in first in the third free practice session of the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.

Despite improving on Friday's underwhelming performance, the British driver will be desperate to translate his improving form into qualifying after enjoying a practice sweep in Baku previous year only to clip the barriers in qualifying and subsequently starting 10th on the grid.

Just as in Canada a fortnight previously, Hamilton made it count when it mattered most to finish almost half-a-second clear of his team-mate Valtteri Bottas as Mercedes locked out the front row for the second time in as many races.

Valtteri Bottas slotted his Mercedes AMG Petronas auto into second on the grid with Kimi Raikkonen outqualifying Sebastian Vettel at Scuderia Ferrari for the second time in three races.

As we mentioned earlier Valtteri Bottas, will start from the second place, and Kimi Raikkonen will be right behind him.

Red Bull dominated Friday practice, with Max Verstappen topping both timesheets and Ricciardo finishing both in the top three, but they did not feature in the battle for pole with Verstappen fifth and Ricciardo 10th.

"We have been struggling to get temperature into the front tyre and we didn't know if it was a one lap tyre. As I said other people were doing a better job and therefore their qualified in front of us".

Who Came Out On Top In The Weekend Box Office?
The first two " Cars " movies combined have made more than $435 million in the US and $1 billion globally. The project combines the talents of director and co-writer Lucia Aniello, co-writer and actor Paul W.

Q2 started with Raikkonen going fastest before Massa beat him to the clock, Bottas and Hamilton then did a fastest lap each with the Brit coming on top after a 1m41.992s lap. I was like, please be enough.

"I was going for the pole and the lap wasn't quite flawless". But with the odds against him, Hamilton responded in emphatic fashion to take his second consecutive pole. It was looking good before the late red flag, but Lewis produced a great lap and mine just wasn't good enough. As a team, we got what we could today.

Sebastian Vettel: "The result is okay, but obviously I am not entirely happy and this qualifying didn't help. I'm not a big fan of excuses, so I could have done a bit better".

Elsewhere, Daniel Ricciardo was fourth for Red Bull ahead of Force India's Esteban Ocon with Verstappen in sixth.

Disappointing showing from Vettel, but what a thrilling final few minutes of Q3 - both Bottas and Hamilton improved on their previous best times.

Elsewhere, Jolyon Palmer failed to qualify after an engine failure during Saturday morning practice, while Fernando Alonso will serve a 40-place grid penalty following a series of changes to his Honda engine.

Fernando Alonso, already hit with a 40-point grid penalty, failed to advance past Q1 for the first time this season, while Jolyon Palmer did not take part in qualifying after a fire in his auto during Saturday morning's practice.
