Saudi foreign policy pushes Iran, Turkey closer

Tillerson Meets With Qatari, Kuwaiti Envoys on Gulf Crisis

Stop all means of funding for those designated as terrorists by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Bahrain, the United States, and other countries. "Tillerson has said he hopes the list of demands would be "reasonable and actionable".

Market participants have informed Platts, the price agency said, that while certain restrictions remain in place, port guidance from the UAE, Saudi Arabia and others have "relieved concerns about possible logistical constraints impacting any co-loading of Qatari crude".

Qatar foreign minister Sheikh Mohammed al-Thani said the demands were "unacceptable".

According to Alarabiya news, Doha has been asked to shut leading news channel Al Jazeera, sever relations with Iran, stop the establishment of a military base by Turkey in Qatar and cutting military cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation member among other demands.

Meanwhile, Kuwait, which has recently dispatched a high-ranking official to Washington to meet with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, is trying to work with the American side on finding the best solutions to guarantee Doha's compliance with the list of Gulf demands. Qatar has rejected numerous terms as foreign interference.

"We do not support terrorism, we do not interfere in the internal affairs of our neighbors, and we are not secret allies of Iran", al Thani said, according to the statement, which added that Qatar was committed to defeating Daesh. At the start of the crisis, Kuwait also pointed out that Qatar needs to understand the "fears and reservations of its brothers".

On Wednesday, Abdulrahman Al-Rashed, the former general manager of Saudi-owned Al Arabiya TV, warned Qatar that it may face a similar treatment to the Egyptian protesters who stood against then-general Abdel Fattah al-Sisi: violent annihilation.

He added: "We have heard that these demands are non-negotiable, but this violates the principles of worldwide relations".

A Saudi-led bloc of Arab nations is considering new economic sanctions against Qatar and may ask trading partners to choose between them or Doha, the UAE's ambassador to Russian Federation has said. He believes that is the effect of Donald Trump trip to Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia said on Monday it had seized weapons from a boat captured after shots were fired by security forces near an oil platform in the Arabian Gulf, at a time of tension with Iran and Qatar.

The public divisions in Washington over the USA stance toward the Gulf dispute highlight the reckless, incoherent and crisis-ridden character of American foreign policy in the Middle East and internationally.

Sheikh Mohammed said in the statement that since it was impossible for Doha to stop doing things it had never been doing, "we are left to conclude that the goal of the ultimatum was not to address the issues listed, but to pressure Qatar to surrender its sovereignty".
