Chicago, Feds Create 'Strike Force' To Curb Gun Violence

U.S. President Donald Trump delivers remarks during an 'Unleashing American Energy' event at the Department of Energy in Washington U.S. J

US President Donald Trump says he is sending "federal help" to fight the "crime and killings" in Chicago.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, speaking Friday on the Fox News Channel's morning show, "Fox & Friends", said the Justice Department is "sending in additional gun investigators" to Chicago and that he has urged the USA attorney's office to prosecute gun cases aggressively.

Trump's tweet comes after authorities confirmed to The Chicago-Sun Times reported that Trump had sent twenty agents from U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to the city.

Chicago police officials said the unit would focus on preventing illegally possessed guns from flowing through the city and on targeting people repeatedly involved in gun crimes, both of which have always been cited as drivers of the violence. Despite the drop in shootings, murders have remained relatively flat compared to past year.

Shortly after his inauguration, Trump tweeted "If Chicago doesn't fix the terrible "carnage" going on, 228 shootings in 2017 with 42 killings (up 24% from 2016), I will send in the Feds!".

Police figures show that the number of shooting incidents and victims have dropped from previous year, although the number of shooting deaths is basically the same.

South, North Korea To Partner For The Olympics
The sports minister further said that both Nation could co-host the ski resort even with Jang Woong, who is the delegate of North Korea to the IOC.

US President Donald Trump has made a decision to send federal troops to Chicago to help fight street violence and drug trafficking. Earlier in January, he posted, "If Mayor can't do it he must ask for Federal help!"

"The police have been demoralized in many ways", he said.

The additional agents follow the announcement Monday that the ATF had deployed a high-tech van in Chicago that can immediately test guns and shell casings at crime scenes throughout the city.

"No child in America should have to walk the streets of their neighborhood in fear of violent criminals, and yet in Chicago, thousands of children do every day".

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement late Thursday that federal and Cook County prosecutors plan to develop new strategies to prosecute gun crimes and offenders.

In February, shortly after Mr. Trump's inauguration, the A.T.F. announced that it would send more agents to Chicago. That federal help, it turns out, is in the form of 20 ATF agents.
