Kapp, van Niekerk set up massive win for South Africa

Stafanie Taylor

It was a ideal call made by South Africa women captain Dane van Niekerk to bowl first after winning the toss, who went on to produce a freakish spell of 3.2-3-0-4. Finally, in the Trans-Tasman rivalry, between Australia and New Zealand, another 14 fell.

Although Kapp was unable to get a third scalp for the hat-trick, she clean-bowled Deandra Ditton for a duck in the same over. "We had our plans coming into the game and it worked to the T". Pakistan and India clashed in Derby today and the green shirts lost by almost 100 runs.

South African all-rounder Dane van Niekerk picked up four wickets without giving away any runs from 3.2 overs with her leg-spin against West Indies in the Women's World Cup.

Van Niekerk reserved special praise for her two opening bowlers, Marizanne Kapp - who is the number-one ranked bowler in ODI cricket - and Shabnim Ismail, who started the Windies slide with a devastating spell.

She made her debut aged just 16 back in the year 2009 against the West Indies in a World Cup game at Newcastle and continued her fairy tale when she became the first South African woman cricketer to take a global hat-trick against them in 2013.

Varadkar to have phone call with Trump
Before speaking with the Taoiseach, Mr Trump will also have a call with new French President Emmanuel Macron. Varadkar told RTE last February, that he "wouldn't be keen" on inviting Donald Trump to visit Ireland.

Their best showing on tour to date came at the Grace Road venue even though they went down to Pakistan Women by five wickets, 11 days ago.

To make matters even worse for the West Indies, they dropped both South Africa openers off successive balls, the Proteas completing their chase in just 6.4 overs.

England captain Heather Knight made 82 and wicket-keeper Sarah Taylor, an unbeaten 74 - her first fifty since returning to the side following anxiety issues.

The format of the tournament has all eight teams playing each other in the group stage, with the top four progressing to the knockout phase.

But Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the West Indies are in danger of being cast adrift, with all three teams yet to win a match.
