UAE FM Urges Qatar to Stop Funding Terrorism

The minister added that Qatar's response to the ultimatum was conveyed to Kuwait, which acts as a mediator in the crisis.

Mr Roberts believes the issues surrounding Qatar and neighbouring gulf states could continue long after the 48-hour deadline.

The conditions include cutting ties with the Muslim Brotherhood, scaling back ties with Iran, shutting the Al Jazeera television station and ending Turkey's military presence in Qatar.

NAN reports that on June 24, the four Arab states handed the country a list of 13 demands, including some likely to infuriate Doha and exacerbate the region's worst crisis in decades.

Trendle said the demand for the network's closure indicates a broader, more troubling trend.

The UAE Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said: "We are still waiting for the response from our brothers in Kuwait regarding the paper they received from Qatar".

Saudi Arabia and three other Arab states which spearheaded a diplomatic campaign against Qatar have extended the deadline for Doha to accept their demands.

Qatar's foreign minister, carrying a handwritten letter from the country's emir, arrived in Kuwait to deliver Doha's formal response to Arab demands, according to Kuwait News Agency.

"Qatar will act responsibly, unlike those being hostile toward our country", the minister said.

The Kremlin said Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke to both the Emir of Qatar and the King of Bahrain on Saturday and called for a diplomatic resolution to end the crisis.

Zubair said on Twitter, "There can be no compromise on our demands regarding Qatar".

Trump also rang the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Sunday night, reported the Qatar News Agency (QNA).

Qatar responded to the list earlier in the week, saying the list of the 13 demands was "not reasonable", denying the charges of supporting extremist groups.

The statement did not give any details of the call.
