Poland promises adoring crowds for Trump

Donald Trump Justin Trudeau Angela Merkel Donald Tusk

Duda told Polish broadcaster TVN24 on Wednesday that he wants to tackle concrete issues like energy security in the meeting with Trump, not engage in "some general talk about world security".

Jaroslaw Kaczynski, who leads the ruling Law and Justice party (PiS), has said others in Europe are envious of the visit, which comes before Mr Trump travels to Germany and later to France. The president is also expected to cite the need to develop "a common approach to Russian Federation", his advisers said.

Trump will deliver his speech in the capital's Krasinski Square, which has deep symbolism for many Poles, commemorating their resistance to totalitarian rule. But there are several other reasons that make Poland a logical early destination for the new USA president.

He added that "the main message is that America is with you, America understands that its interests align with the interests of the Polish people, and we are determined to do our best to work together on our common priorities and our common interests".

Chinese President Xi Jinping is among at least nine leaders Trump is scheduled to meet with later in the week in Germany during the Group of 20 summit of the world's leading rich and developing countries.

President Donald Trump will learn this week whether he gets a second chance to make a first impression as he returns to Europe and has his first encounter with Russia's Vladimir Putin. Every aspect of the bilateral meeting between the two unpredictable leaders is sure to be closely scrutinized as investigations press on into alleged Moscow meddling in the 2016 election and potential Trump campaign collusion.

Microsoft Planning To Lay Off Thousands In Reorganization
A Microsoft spokesperson said as quoted by AFP, " Microsoft is implementing changes to better serve our customers and partners". Bloomberg did not report on the number of potential layoffs , but noted that the changes were likely to be announced this week.

It was only six weeks ago when Trump, meeting with NATO leaders in Brussels, scolded them for failing to spend enough on defense during a speech in which the Republican president was expected to explicitly endorse NATO's Article 5, the collective defense provision of the treaty.

The Polish government is trying to become less energy-dependent on Russian Federation and last month the first ever USA liquefied natural gas shipment arrived.

"They're betting that this relationship with the United States on defense will balance their concerns about the possible directions of U.S. -Russia policy", said Jeff Rathke, a senior fellow and deputy director of the Europe Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Poland has been particularly concerned about the perceived Russian threat. But Trump has expressed hopes of improved relations with the global power. White House officials said the speech would spell out, in broad terms, Trump's vision for transatlantic ties. "And he will call on all nations to take inspiration from the spirit of the Poles as we confront today's challenges". As a narcissist enthralled with those who offer him affirmation, Trump will likely respond to Warsaw's lavish praise in kind.

During his first foreign trip as President last May, Mr. Trump left world leaders feeling uneasy given his "America First" positions on trade and climate change.

His anti-internationalist attitudes chafed German Chancellor Angela Merkel so thoroughly that she later told a Munich rally that the days when Europe could count on others "are over to a certain extent" and "Europeans must really take our fate into our own hands".

The White House won't say what the two will talk about, but has confirmed the meeting is set for Friday afternoon.
