Microsoft to Cut Thousands of Sales Jobs

Microsoft Plans Large Scale Layoffs 1

The reorganisation will hit the company's sales unit, reports say. Otherwise, the note provided to TechCrunch is a fairly lukewarm confirmation of layoffs that will most likely number in the thousands as previously reported. The layoffs will be primarily is sales and amount to less than 10% of the company's total sales force, and about 75% of these will be jobs outside of the US.

Microsoft announced Wednesday that it is laying off as many as 3,000 employees, according to CNBC. This can result in increased investment in some areas and, from time to time, re-deployment in other areas.

The job cut initiative is said to be based on the company's last week announcement.

The media report quoted a Microsoft spokesperson as saying that the company is implementing changes to better serve its customers and partners.

Microsoft plans to shed thousands of jobs in a major reboot to focus on its fast-growing cloud-computing business.

Plane bursts into flames as it crashes on California freeway
The plane only clipped one vehicle as it crashed on the freeway, an official told ABC7, adding that this was "truly remarkable". The Cessna 310 touched down in traffic lanes just short of the runway at 9:35 a.m., said airport spokeswoman Deanne Thompson.

Microsoft is axing as many as 3,000 jobs as it refocuses its business, with a new emphasis on selling lucrative cloud services prompting a sizable shakeup. Azure sales grew 93 percent last quarter, the company said, and the company aims to market Azure as service and infrastructure. That reshuffle saw several of those teams move under the command of Judston Altoff, executive vice president of Microsoft's Worldwide Commercial Business Group.

Now there are 1,200 staff working for Microsoft at their EMEA operations base in the capital.

The Redmond-based giant had cut 2,850 people from its smartphone and sales teams back in July previous year.

The spokesperson also told PTI in a written format that: "We want to notify some employees that their jobs are under the question mark or they will be shown the exit doors".

Cloud products generated about US$1.7bn in revenue for the nine months to the end of March, driven by its cloud computing platform Azure.
