Trade Grades: Celtics Unload Avery Bradley To Pistons For Marcus Morris

Report: Celtics May Pursue Marc Gasol From Memphis In Trade

By sending Bradley's $8.8 million deal to Detroit, the Celtics clear $3.8 million in salary, since Marcus Morris is owed only $5 million for the upcoming season. It appears the Celtics aren't done making moves during the National Basketball Association offseason, as team president Danny Ainge continues to try to improve the roster.

Morris was traded to Boston on Friday in exchange for Avery Bradley, Shams Charania of The Vertical reports.

The Detroit Pistons have renounced the rights to restricted free agent sharpshooter Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. But acquiring Bradley gives the team more financial flexibility, in addition to landing a top-notch defender. At various times last season, Smart guarded point guards, shooting guards, small forwards and even big men like Anthony Davis, Kristaps Porzingis and Paul Millsap.

- Now that Caldwell-Pope is a free agent, it will be interesting to see what his market is.

NBA Rumors: Marc Gasol Emerging As Possible Trade Target For Celtics

So the Pistons have probably lost two starters to get one. and that one can be an unrestricted free agent in 12 months.

This past season was Bradley's best season yet.

In a vacuum, adding Morris to the mix in the Bradley deal makes Crowder expendable. He averaged 16.3 points per game for Boston this past season in an average of more than 33 minutes per game. I'm not convinced that's the case.

Bradley is coming off of a career year, in which he set highs in points (16.3 per game), rebounds (6.1), assists (2.2), and shot 46.3-percent from the field and 39-percent from three. I think they somewhat understate his value, which is somewhere in the very good range. The Pistons went 37-45 last season, a disappointing mark for a team that was in the postseason in 2016. Detroit has another solid wing player in Tobias Harris, and the Pistons drafted sharp-shooting Duke guard Luke Kennard in the first round.
