The explosion heavily damaged the front doors of the recruiting station in the Post Rock Plaza in the 10400 block of South 82nd East Avenue just off South Memorial Drive.

Dale Barnett, the co-owner of Barnett Music Exchange, just four doors from the office in the Tulsa suburb of Bixby, says he just opened the musical instrument store on Monday. Authorities declined to specify the nature of the device.

Rice said they are not investigating the explosion as an act of domestic terrorism but as a criminal act with an explosive device.

Federal authorities said Tuesday that agents are treating the explosion as a possible act of domestic terrorism out of "an abundance of caution", but that it could have been an accident or prank. They began in 2008 under somewhat similar circumstances when someone placed a small bomb outside of the military recruiting office in Times Square in New York City overnight. The extent of the damage is not yet known.

Both the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the FBI are now investigating the bombing of the Tulsa Air Force recruiting center.

Early reports indicate the fragments were consistent with a pipe bomb, Federal Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessie Rice said, but the type of bomb has not been confirmed.

No arrests have been made so far.

Rice says the final determination on whether to label the act as terrorism rests with the FBI and that it is now a criminal investigation into the use of an explosive device.
