3 dead as police hunt for active shooter who ran off into woods

Gardendale, Alabama- Three people, a man and two women, have reportedly been killed by a gunman in a mobile home park.

It is now an active scene and police ask that people avoid the area of Willow Bend Drive.

According to Gardendale Police, 51-year-old Kenneth Dion Lever shot two women and one man in a mobile home park, fled the scene and is considered armed and unsafe.

"We have three victims deceased on the scene, their identities can not be released at this time", Gardendale Police said on Facebook.

Police said Lever is "armed and dangerous", and asked anyone who sees him not to approach and inform the police. "Police looking for Kenneth Dion Lever 5'10" 220 lbs, considered armed & risky.

According to AL.com, Lever fled into the woods after the shooting at around 8 a.m. local time.

Authorities have not yet identified the victims in what they believe was a domestic-related crime.

The York Daily Record reported that Lever was charged by Lower Windsor Township Police, York County, Pa., on September 28, 2015 and October 13, 2015 in two separate sexual assault cases.In both cases, Lever was charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child, indecent assault person less than 13 years of age, corruption of minors, and distribution of explicit sexual material of a minor. Their identities were not revealed.

The AP story also notes Lever was facing charges of sexual abuse of a minor in York County, Pennsylvania.

The protection order was issued in Jefferson County, Alabama, the same county as the triple homicide on Wednesday.
