South Korea to deploy new radar to detect North Korea drones

China June exports, imports higher than expected: Reuters

China insisted Thursday it was upholding UN sanctions on North Korea despite a jump in its trade with the nuclear-armed nation that comes amid growing USA calls for Beijing to rein in its neighbour.

UN Security Council Resolution 2270, approved in March 2016, included a ban on all exports of materials like coal, iron and iron ore from North Korea.

Pyongyang's state media said last week's test successfully verified the atmospheric re-entry of the warhead loaded on the test-launched missile, which experts fear may be able to reach Alaska.

However, China is defending its stand as it prudently follows and observes sanctions released by the United Nations on North Korea.

President Xi reaffirmed that the "blood brotherhood" between China and North Korea remains strong during talks with South Korean President Moon Jae In ahead of the summit with President Trump.

The timing and scope of the U.S. action will depend heavily on how China responds to pressure for tougher steps against North Korea when U.S. and Chinese officials meet for a high-level economic dialog in Washington on Wednesday, the administration sources told Reuters. China imported about 445 million metric tons of iron ore in the first five months of 2017, according to Bloomberg Intelligence, of which just 1.1 million metric tons came from North Korea. But Huang said the total trade figure in the first six months was US$2.55 billion, an increase of 10.5 percent.

Hyperloop One Have Completed A Full Systems Test

The radar capable of tracking unmanned aerial vehicles from North Korea would be used for local air defense, and will enter mass production for deployment in 2018, South Korean news service Newsis reported.

In both countries, large majorities expect this would happen: 91% of South Koreans expect US assistance in the event of a military conflict with North Korea, and 82% of Japanese say the same.

"China customs have all along fully, accurately, conscientiously and strictly enforced relevant Security Council resolutions", Huang declares. "Trade related to DPRK people's livelihood, especially those that reflect humanitarianism should not be influenced by the sanctions", Huang said.

China has seriously carried out United Nations sanctions on North Korea, said Huang.

At the same time, iron ore imports have surged between January and May to $74.4 million compared to $24 million over the same period past year.

"There is no military solution to the threat of a nuclear North Korea", said Markey who is the ranking Democrat on the East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Subcommittee. But it is especially anxious about the collapse of the regime with which it shares a border, and fears both an influx of millions of North Korean refugees and the possibility of a unified Korea with USA troops again at the Yalu River.
